From the French Romantic School of portraiture. This portrait is unsigned which is not uncommon for pastels in the Empire period. It is in very good condition in a plain gilt frame with museum glass. The gentleman has striking blue eyes and thinning white hair and care lines around his eyes and forehead. This, combined with his level of dress in classic early 19th century high collar shirt, gentleman’s cravat and tie with frock coat, leads us to believe he is a gentleman of authority with cares and concerns, but also status and power. 24.25″ x 20″
